Crochet Extra – December 2021

The end of 2021 is here!  Or if you are reading this in January – we have finally reached the beginning of 2022!

What a year 2021 was.   To finish off the year we have our 12 Makes of Christmas kicking off today (1st of December).  If you forgot to sign12 makes of christmas up, it’s not too late – you’ll just be a few days behind….

For those who have visited our store before, you’ll know how hot it can get in here during summer.  We have installed new fans in the shop and what a difference it has made!  It is so much cooler and far more comfortable to browse and choose your essential tools and colours.

Looking ahead to 2022, crochet will continue to feature with boho trends and in the fashion world – hence our theme for this period – Stepping out in Style – to help you prepare.

The Crochet Guild Australia continues to grow and are also adding more benefits for their members during 2022.  See all the details on their website.

Our December workshops comprise of three small projects to make as December crofchet workshopgifts for yourself or to use as stocking stuffers.  Each week is a separate project.  Book in for one or all of the weeks here.

Looking ahead to 2022, we have a great series of workshops lined up for you – a crochet parasol, learning broomstick lace and amigurumi – just to name a few. These will kick off in February – no workshops will be held in January.

Until next time

Theme—Stepping out in Style

If you leave the house in something crocheted, knitted, tatted or hand made then there is no doubt you will be “Stepping Out In Style”. We are seeing more and more crocheted items featured on the runway, in fashion magazines and shop displays.

On the runways for the Spring/Summer 2022 season, homespun crochet details were a present theme, playing up texture. Crocheted pieces were layered over suits, tailored in matching sets, and made into feminine butterfly-esque silhouettes.

crochet craze

Of a more general nature mini skirts and bra tops reigned on the runways, as did lighthearted prints like gingham, stripes and all white-ensembles.  For us crocheters, we can recreate many of these outfits ourselves, and be super trendy with these colour combinations.

But beware – it is not only the women donning crochet outfits – many of the male celebrities have been spotted in crochet tops and accessories – most notably Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes.mens crochet fashion

When we talk about style there really is no limits. This can embody the clothes we wear, the bags we accessorise with, jewellery, footwear or headwear such as hats and beanies. If you are looking for a pattern to make that stylish piece, then take a look at the wide range we feature this month.

For summer – you can’t go past using cotton for your fashion statement – light and absorbent they can keep you cool in summer.  Catona, Camilla, Wren, Organicon, Almina, Papyrus, Cedar and Bamboo Soft are all great cottons we feature in store that make excellent garments and accessories.  The colour range is so extensive in these cottons so you can crochet for men and women alike.

Try making this chevron crochet skirt by knitsi.com to get started. – finch 10 ply cotton can substitute for the Lana Grosso Organico.
