Fabric Protect FAQ’s
How much Fabric Protect do I need to protect my upholstery?
A 500mL bottle will provide approximately the following coverage:
- 1 coat to all areas of a 5 seat lounge
- 2 coats to all areas of a 3 (or smaller) seat lounge
For exceptional coverage that provides long term protection, we recommend that you apply 2 coats to your furnishings. If you have a larger lounge or area of fabric furnishings that need treatment, a second bottle may be needed.
How often should I apply the product?
One application will provide protective properties for 3-6 months. Regular application will provide increased protection. We recommend applying every 3 months for furniture used daily and every 6 months for furniture that isn’t used often. Fabric should be cleaned before application of fabric protect. What types of fabric can the Fabric Protector be used on?
The Fabric Doctor Fabric Protect can be used on all types of fabrics including velvet, microfibre, linen, suede, bamboo, hemp and cotton. Fabric Protect can be used on an array of fabric items like furniture, bed heads, curtains, ottomans and fabric car and boat seating to help prevent stains.
How long does the Fabric Protection spray take to dry?
After application, allow the product to dry for 24 hours (note – it may take longer in colder months/climates).
You can help expedite the drying process by turning on overhead ceiling fans or allowing a breeze to pass through the area. We do not recommend using hair dryers or other similar tools because of risk in burning delicate fabric surfaces.
Does the Fabric Protection have an odour?
No, the product is odour free, helping to protect your fabric furnishings without an odour being released.
Why should I apply Fabric Protect to my fabric upholstery?
Regular fabric cleaning and applications of Fabric Protect are crucial to keeping fabric upholstery in good condition. Smog, cigarette smoke, pet dander, soil and dust mite are just a few of the environmental pollutants that can get absorbed in fabric surfaces on a regular basis. The application of Fabric Protect provides an invisible barrier to help protect your furnishings against stains, helping you enjoy your living or working spaces as they were intended.
Easy Cleaning System
Fabric protection helps increase surface tension on fabric furnishings. This means that any liquid spilt on fibres can’t easily penetrate the surface. An application of Fabric Protect applies a protective coating to fabric fibres on a nano scale, preventing immediate absorption of any spills. Absorbent materials such as cotton or linen will have a stronger defence against spills, but more importantly, will make regular cleaning easier too.
Will it change the look or feel of my furniture?
No. The product works on a nano-scale, coating the fibres with an invisible protective barrier. The feel of your fabric won’t change because the protective properties work on such a small scale. It is colour safe as well.
Does this product make it easier to clean my fabric upholstery?
Yes. With regular applications of Fabric Protect, cleaning becomes easier and faster, and by protecting your fabric furnishings against spills, the quality of the fabric remains intact. When you combine fabric protection with regular fabric cleaning, it results in less dirt, dust and pollutants penetrating through the furniture fibres, keeping them cleaner and looking better.
Guard Your Health
Allergens, mites, pollutants, and other common germs can exist in fabric furniture for long periods of time. Without proper fabric protection and cleaning, germ-ridden furniture can be bad for your health. Hidden bacteria and germs tucked away inside the fibres of fabric furniture that aren’t regularly cleaned or protected, isn’t desirable in any setting.
